Northern Cyprus is one of the most comfortable places in the world for recreation. This small state, located in the northern part of the legendary island, is famous for its cordiality and hospitality. It is warm here all year round and the sun almost always shines. The gentle Mediterranean Sea, magnificent landscapes, well-maintained sandy beaches, a lot of historical sights and unique cultural traditions are what attract tourists.

How to get to Northern Cyprus? This question arises in every traveler.

The Road to Northern Cyprus: Some Important Points

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is located in the northeastern part of the island. There are no road or rail bridges between this state and the mainland, so there are only two ways to get there: by air and by sea. But before we get into the logistics, we need to say a few words about the country’s status.

Northern Cyprus is considered a partially recognized state, and its independence is not contested only by Turkey. This state of affairs was established in 1974, when as a result of an armed conflict the island was divided into two parts – northern and southern. Southern Cyprus is populated mainly by Greek Cypriots, Northern Cyprus – by Turkish Cypriots.

Although there are no military actions on the island today, the consequences of the recent confrontation are still felt. The world community does not recognize the independence of Northern Cyprus and considers it part of the state of Cyprus. For this reason, there is no direct air communication between the Republic and other countries. Flights to Northern Cyprus are carried out exclusively from Turkish airports. The same applies to sea communication: all active routes are laid between the ports of the TRNC and Turkey.

Via Northern Cyprus Airport

There are two airports in Northern Cyprus, but only one of them is operational. This is Ercan, located 25 km from the capital of the country Nicosia, 35 km from the resort of Kyrenia and 50 km from the legendary Famagusta. Every day this air harbor receives almost 90 flights. This year a new modern terminal of Ercan airport was opened, it is much more spacious than the previous one and in the near future it is planned to increase the number of passengers arriving in Cyprus.

From Russia and the CIS countries, you can get to Ercan only with a transfer in Turkey. That is, you first need to get to Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Bodrum, and then transfer to a flight to Northern Cyprus. Here, at the Turkish airport, you can go through passport control. The largest Turkish airlines – Pegasus, Turkish Airlines, Atlas Global – carry out passenger transportation. But keep in mind that, having arrived in Northern Cyprus through Ercan Airport, holders of Russian passports can get to the southern part of the island only if they have an open (having 1 entry into the Schengen zone) Schengen visa.

To Northern Cyprus by ferry

You can also get to Northern Cyprus by bus or car. You will have to go through Turkey and get to the island by ferry. Tourists have the opportunity to choose the most convenient ferry route: Tasucu – Kyrenia, Mersin – Kyrenia, Mersin – Famagusta. Some ferries only carry passengers, others deliver cars to the island. Travel time is from 4 to 8 hours.c et justo ante. Vivamus egestas sodales est, eu rhoncus urna semper eu. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus.
